Instructions for creating and loading voice packages for MapcamDroid
This instruction describes the process of creating custom voice packages, installing them in the MapcamDroid mobile application, and managing them via the web interface on the Mapcam.info website.
Part 1: Creating a Voice Package
A voice package is a ZIP archive containing audio files in the .m4a format (AAC codec).
IMPORTANT: All audio files must be located directly in the root of the archive. Do not pack them inside subfolders.

Part 2: Ways to Load to the App
Method 1: Import ZIP archive through app settings (Recommended)
- Prepare the ZIP archive containing your audio files and copy it to your device storage.
- Open the MapcamDroid application.
- Navigate to Settings -> Sound Settings -> Voice Packages.
- Tap the button "Load from file" (at the very bottom of the screen).
- Select the prepared ZIP archive using the system file manager.
- The application will automatically extract the files and activate the new voice package.
Method 2: Download ready packages from the server
- Navigate to Settings -> Sound Settings -> Voice Packages.
- Find the package you want in the list and tap the "Download" button. The app will download and apply it automatically.
Part 3: Managing Voice Packages on Mapcam.info Website
You can download, rate, and share voice packages on the management page: Voice Packages Manager.
1. Downloading Packages
The page displays a grid of available voice packages, categorized by language. You can download any package to your computer or phone by clicking the "Download Package" button (which also shows the file size). Once downloaded, you can install it into the application using Method 1 from Part 2.
2. Adding Your Own Voice Package
If you have created a high-quality voice package and want to share it with the community:
- You must be logged in to the Mapcam.info website.
- Your karma (the difference between positive and negative karma) must be greater than 5 units. If your karma is sufficient, the "Add Voice Package" form will appear on the right side of the page.
- Fill out the form fields:
- Language Code: select the package language from the list (English, Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, Belarusian).
- Package Name: enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Male Voice (Standard)").
- Package Version: specify the version (e.g., 1.0).
- Description: describe the voice features, author name, file contents, etc.
- Archive File: choose the created ZIP archive.
- Click the "Upload Package" button.
ZIP Archive requirements when uploading to the site:
- Only files with extensions
.m4a,.properties,.txt, and.nomediaare allowed. - Files must be located in the root of the archive. Do not pack them inside nested folders.
- Any other file formats are prohibited. Otherwise, the system will show an error and reject the upload.
3. Rating System and Voting
- Users can rate other voice packages using the "like" (▲) and "dislike" (▼) buttons.
- Authors cannot vote for their own packages.
- If the voting user has karma greater than 3 units, their vote affects the author's karma:
- A "like" vote adds +1 to the author's karma.
- A "dislike" vote subtracts -1 from the author's karma.
- The package rating in the form of stars is only shown after the package receives at least 10 ratings. Until then, a dash is shown instead of stars.
